Who We Are

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a group of people who do not have all the answers, and who only know some of the questions.  We are people who fail daily, who break easily, and who (as Luther put it) “sin boldly.”  In other words, we are people a lot like you.  As a member congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod we exist to proclaim, marvel in, and spread the massive mercy, un-out-sin-able forgiveness, and overwhelming good news of Jesus’ dying and rising love for you and all people.  Immanuel Lutheran Church has been doing so in Charlottesville and around since 1869.  To learn more about who we are, please pay us a visit!

More about the beliefs and teachings of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod can be found here.   A number of helpful pamphlets on specific doctrinal, practical, and ethical topics can be found here.  And here is a wonderful essay written by a friend of Immanuel about what it means to be a Lutheran.
